My Philosophy

As 21st Century global educator I consider it vital that I provide many opportunities to equip my student with the language skills necessary so that they may participate responsibly and actively in a dynamically changing cultural society. Therefore, it is vital to design both individual and collaborative activities that allow for open and continuous dialogue and inquiry within the learning experience. I view myself as a facilitator, scaffolding the strategies and differentiating learning experiences for students to assist them develop competency in problem solving and critical thinking. I utilize technology tools to provide authentic and engaging learning experiences as I believe and want my students to appreciate that language proficiency is fundamental to international understanding.

Globalization has enhanced learning experiences for IB students and opened up the field of education providing opportunities for teachers to widen their methodology and pedagogy in cultural ways that are more engaging and accessible for the students. English second language students need to be supported as they navigate there way successfully, learning to reflect on their experiences as they work towards more innovative learning experiences. I value my role as an ESL educator because I feel passionately about the role of education as a ‘vehicle for change’ and my role is to support their linguistic ability so that the ESL student will gain academic success to the best of their abilities so they may compete successfully in an international environment. I welcome the opportunity to assist students and colleagues in achieving the new challenges and goals associated with ESL learning.
